Description of Services

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the application of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofacial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) trigger point therapy. Trigger point therapy is sometimes referred to as neuromuscular therapy or NMT, or Myotherapy.

Trigger point therapy is said to interrupt the neural signals that cause both the trigger point and the pain. The object is to eliminate pain and to reeducate the muscles into pain-free habits. In this manner, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, and flexibility and coordination are improved. The therapy can also relieve tension and improve circulation.

Some conditions that benefit from trigger point therapy include:

·      Arthritis
·      Carpal tunnel syndrome
·      Chronic pain in the back, knees, and shoulders
·      Headaches
·      Menstrual cramps
·      Multiple scleroses
·      Muscle spasms
·      Chronic muscle tension
·      Postoperative pain
·      Sciatica
·      Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
·      Whiplash injuries

Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and calm the nervous system.  There are five basic strokes used in this technique: effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), and friction (cross fiber).  This helps the body relax by stimulating improving the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, decreasing blood pressure, relaxing contracted muscles, releasing stiffness in joints and muscles, increases circulation of lymph, and promoting a sense of well-being.

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that uses slow deep strokes with fingers, knuckles, and elbows, across the grain of the muscle to break up adhesions and scar tissue and relieve chronic muscle tension.

When muscles are stressed, they block nutrients and oxygen from getting to the proper destination. This leads to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissues. These toxins and inflammation can contribute to pain and stress, among other things. A deep tissue massage helps to loosen muscle tissues which releases toxins from the muscle tissues.

By loosening the muscle tissues and removing toxins, a deep tissue massage allows blood and oxygen to circulate correctly. Because many toxins are released in a deep tissue massage, it is very important to consume a lot of water after a deep tissue session. The water helps to eliminate the released toxins from the body. A deep tissue massage may cause some soreness during or after the massage.

Hot stone massage uses heated smooth, flat stones placed on key points on the body and held in the hands of the therapist to massage certain areas of the body.  The heat warms and relaxes the muscles which can allow the therapist to apply deeper pressure if desired.  This improves circulation and calms the nervous system.

Integrative massage is a combination of Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Trigger Point therapy, restore function to muscles, stretch fascia,  increase circulation and relieve tension and stress held in the tissue and is a great way to relax the body overall. Hot stones can be added to this massage for an additional fee*.

Sports massage is a method of massage especially designed to prepare an athlete for an upcoming event and to aid in the body’s regenerative and restorative capacities following a rigorous workout or competition.  This is achieved through specialized manipulations that stimulate circulation of the blood and lymph.  Some sports massage movements are designed to break down lesions and adhesions or reduce fatigue.

Craniosacral therapy CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch about the weight of a nickel, restrictions on this delicate system are released so the function of the central nervous system is improved.

CST can be used as a preventative health measure to help complement the body’s natural healing process and/or as a way to address pain and dysfunction for a wide range of medical problems, including:

·      Migraine Headaches
·      Chronic Neck and Back Pain
·      Autism
·      Central Nervous System Disorders
·      Orthopedic Problems
·      Scoliosis
·      Chronic Fatigue
·      Stress and Tension-Related Problems
·      Fibromyalgia & other
Connective-Tissue Disorders
·      Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
·      Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
·      Post-Surgical Dysfunction

Myofacial Release is a hands-on technique used to release restrictions in the fascia and connective tissue and restore normal alignment and function to the body and help reduce pain.

Myofascial Release is not massage. Myofascial Release is used to equalize muscle tension throughout the body. Unequal muscle tension can compress nerves and muscles causing pain. Progress is measured by a decrease in the patient's pain and by an improvement in overall posture. Myofascial Release is highly effective in treating patients with the following diagnoses.

·      Migraine Headaches
·      Back strain, chronic back pain,
low back pain, thoracic back pain
·      Carpal tunnel syndrome
·      Chronic cervical pain
·      Complex pain complaints
·      Dizziness, vertigo
·      Fibromyalgia
·      Headache
·      Plantar fasciitis
·      Thoracic outlet syndrome
·      TMJ dysfunction
·      Whiplash

Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA)
A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass can greatly increase your risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other diseases. BIA is a measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It provides early detection of an improper balance in your body composition, which allows for earlier intervention and prevention.

The BIA analyzer calculates your tissue and fluid compartments (components) using an imperceptible electrical current passed through pads placed on your hand and foot as you lie comfortably clothed on an exam table. In minutes we’ll have detailed measurements to help create an effective, personalized program for you. Follow-up BIA tests monitor your progress.
